    Welcome to the CTA family!

    The Carmel Teachers’ Association is the sole negotiating and bargaining agent for the following certified employees: Teachers, guidance counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, librarians, and nurses of the Carmel Central School District.

    The Carmel Teachers' Association has always made a strong effort to give back to the community in which we serve. Our activities include: Adopt-a-Highway, Christmas Kids' Day celebration, Thanksgiving dinners for senior citizens, the Heart Walk, Relay for Life, assistance to families that have been affected by personal tragedies, scholarships to graduating seniors, and so much more. The Carmel Teachers' Association recognizes the partnership that exists between our association and the community. We look forward to a continued productive and positive relationship.

    What We Do
    The CTA provides a variety of services and resources to its members, including professional development opportunities, educational materials, and support. The CTA also advocates for its members in matters of educational policy, working to ensure that teachers have a voice in decisions that affect their work, their students, and their professions. In addition to these services, the CTA plays an active role in the community, sponsoring events and initiatives that promote education and well-being of students of the Carmel Central School District.

    The Carmel Teacher's Association (CTA) is a professional organization that represents the interests of teachers and educators of the Carmel Central School District. The CTA is dedicated to promoting the welfare of its members, improving the quality of education in the district, and advancing the cause of public education.

    We represent the hardworking educators and staff of the Carmel Central School District. The CTA is dedicated to ensuring that Carmel students receive the highest quality education possible, and their teachers have the support and resources they need to be successful.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    A: By contractual agreement - working hours are as follows:

        Carmel High School: 7:05am - 1:50pm

        George Fisher Middle School: 7:50am - 2:35pm

        Elementary Schools (MPES, KPS, KES): 8:55am - 3:35pm

    A: Prior to 6am, log into Frontline Absence Management via Classlink - create the absence by filling the form

    A: 18 sick days and 3 personal days.

    A: Contact your school’s main office to report the situation.

    A: You will receive a phone call, as well as an email from the district. Snow days and delays are also announced on several local news. The district app also will alert you on snow days and delays.

    A: Read the emergency plans and procedures information. Plans and procedures are located in a red folder in each classroom. Have the red folder AND your attendance roster with you during drills. The district holds several types of drills throughout the school year.

    What is NYSUT?

    The Carmel Teachers’ Association (CTA) is part of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT). NYSUT represents over 600,000  teachers and professionals across our state. It is the largest single teacher’s union in the country. By joining the CTA you automatically become a member of NYSUT. The same is true of the American Federation of Teachers -  you automatically become a member of that national organization when you join the CTA. This also makes us part of the AFL-CIO, connecting us with people who work every unionized trade imaginable, and making us a part of the largest labor unions in the country, NYSUT offers support in the following ways:

    2. Higher salaries and health care
    3. A more secure retirement
    4. Giving you a voice
    5. Improving our workplace
    6. Doing good in our communities

    These affiliations bring us many advantages. It allows us access to legal council, labor relations specialists, workshops, training opportunities, and important information from all parts of the state. NYSUT gives a local like the Carmel Teachers’ Association all the tools we need to maintain a strong union.
